Liverpool now keeping tabs on ‘aggressive’ £80m-rated player

Liverpool are reportedly keeping tabs on Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie, with the Reds keen on signing a left-footed centre-back.

Fussball Transfers claim that Liverpool, as well as West Ham, are tracking the 21-year-old Ecuador international, who is considered by many as one of the best defensive talents in Europe.

With a reported asking price of £80m, though, a deal could be hard to complete this summer, especially with Hincapie still missing from Xabi Alonso’s squad due to injury.

However, given Hincapie’s age and experience, the defender could be worth the punt for Liverpool, especially when you consider how dire their centre-back situation is.

Indeed, Liverpool will not survive this season with just Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate as their main duo at the back, and Hincapie could be an excellent addition to bridge the depth in quality in defence.

Hincapie might be injured and quite young for a defender, but that’s not to say the centre-back will flop should he move to Liverpool from Leverkusen this summer.

As we know, depth is needed at the back for Jurgen Klopp’s side if they’re to actually challenge for something this season, and Hincapie will provide that and then some for the Reds.

The Ecuadorian has the potential to become a defensive superstar at the right club, and Liverpool could give Hincapie the platform to succeed at the highest level.
