‘A good all-rounder’: James Maddison praises 23-year-old Chelsea player who’s decent at everything

Tottenham and England star James Maddison has delivered high praise on Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher.

Conor Gallagher, who’s only 23, is a box-to-box midfielder getting minutes for club and country.

He’s started the new season as a nailed-on starter for Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea. Also, he was away with Gareth Southgate’s England squad during the recent international break.

When discussing player ratings for the new FC24 console game, Maddison frequently mentioned England teammate Gallagher due to the fact he’s pretty solid in most departments of his game.

The Spurs playmaker, 26, paid a big compliment to the Chelsea midfielder.

“He’s a good all-rounder… He’s quite physical, he’s good, decent pace, decent dribbling,” Maddison told England’s YouTube channel.

Maddison completed a high-profile move in the summer from Leicester City to Spurs. Interestingly, he was nearly joined by Gallagher in North London.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on X that Spurs did hold interest in summer in signing Gallagher. Chelsea’s academy graduate ended up staying put at Stamford Bridge, though.

Some may argue that Gallagher’s strength is also his weakness. That is because he’s a Jack of all trades, master of none.

Our view is that Gallagher is good enough to nail down a spot in the Chelsea line-up if he starts adding more goals to his game, something he should be capable of. Otherwise, it seems a tall order to stay in Pochettino’s best XI moving forward.
