On The Pitch Side Podcast, Ian Holloway, however, expressed his displeasure with Conte’s dismissal from Tottenham following the Southampton match, asserting that the Italian was only stating the truth about his squad.

“He speaks the truth honestly, but I couldn’t take it when Conte was fired last year despite merely being saying the truth. Was he attempting to get out of there or did he wish to stay? It’s that simple: you cannot expect to continue working for a company if you publicly criticize them.

Even if Conte may have been speaking the truth about Spurs and the way things were being handled, you don’t say things like that in a news conference—you keep everything under wraps and stay out of the spotlight.

Whatever you want to say about Daniel Levy—and there is a lot to say—firing Conte at that particular moment was presumably one of the few times he read the room correctly and made the right move.
