Ange Postecoglou sets Premier League record that Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho could not manage

Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Tottenham, has created a new Premier League following his outstanding debut in England. 

All the credit for Spurs’ incredible play this season goes to Postecoglou, who gave the team a much-needed makeover.

Their undefeated record and position at the top of the table give supporters hope that they may even contend for the championship this year.

And they have a scorching start, having scored 23 points in their first nine games.

It’s a record that would make Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola jealous for a manager in their debut season at a Premier League team.

In his first season at Chelsea, 2004–05, Mourinho finished with 20 points from his first nine games. However, the team’s lone league loss came in the ninth game, which they lost to Manchester City.

Guardiola also accomplished the same feat in his debut season at City in 2016–17, despite losing to Tottenham, of all teams, early in the year.

However, Postecoglou’s Spurs are still unstoppable as they defeated Fulham 2-0 on Monday night to reclaim the top spot in the standings.

Given that both City and Arsenal have 21 points after nine games, and that Guardiola has surpassed both Mikel Arteta’s and his own record from 2016–17, it is all the more remarkable.

Only twice this season have Tottenham lost, once against Arsenal last month in a 2-2 tie and once against Brentford on the first day of the new campaign.

They have already defeated Burnley, defeated Manchester United, and taken down Liverpool, albeit they should count themselves lucky to have taken down Liverpool following a disastrous VAR mishap.

Postecoglou, nevertheless, was not pleased with Tottenham’s 2-0 victory over Fulham on Monday night, even though his team was ahead of the rest of the field.

After missing multiple opportunities, the Australian coach has argued that his team should have defeated their London rivals.

In his news conference following the game, Postecoglou expressed his disappointment with the second half.

“We need to maintain our rigorous approach because we were nowhere near the levels we have been at all year.

“We should have had much better control of the game, but the goalie [Guglielmo Vicario] made a couple of spectacular saves to keep the clean sheet.

“This is just what I observed; I’m not attempting to make a point. In my opinion, we wasted a lot of ball in the second half.

“We cheated a little bit by giving extra touches. I’ve been in this game long enough to know that you will be rapidly brought down if you try to take unfair advantage of others.

“Even if we won the game, there is still room for improvement, and I won’t allow that to happen.

“We weren’t playing at the same level with the ball in the second half as we have this year, and there wasn’t really a good explanation for it.

It wasn’t as though the opponents took any distinct actions. It was more of an internal injury.
