Lions’ Dan Campbell reveals key to victory in NFC Championship Game vs. 49ers

The head coach of the Detroit Lions shares his main worry for the team’s impending NFC Championship game against the San Francisco 49ers.

The NFC Championship game between the Detroit Lions and the No. 1 49ers is scheduled to take place in San Francisco. Even though the Lions are vast underdogs in their away game, head coach Dan Campbell is getting his squad ready to pull an upset. San Francisco has the edge of home field and experience, but the Lions still have what it takes to beat the 49ers. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Campbell feels that the 49ers run game is the most important topic that the Lions need to address.

The formidable Christian McCaffrey of San Francisco is constantly used like a Swiss Army knife on offense. In addition to being the finest running back in the NFL, McCaffrey is also a top offensive option. Along with McCaffrey, the Niners also use All-Pro fullback Kyle Juszczyk in their backfield designs. They are a run-first offense’s top choice because they can both pass catch and act as a safety net for quarterback Brock Purdy.

The Lions can win this game if they can maintain their lead in the trenches and use their defensive line to put pressure on the 49ers’ offense. The Lions don’t have much of an option, but stopping McCaffrey is a very tough challenge, especially behind one of the most formidable offensive lines. Given Purdy’s struggles with passing yards in the divisional round, they must turn this into a passing-only contest.
