Tottenham transfer news: Brighton in talks over Bryan Gil loan move
The 22-year-old has found it difficult to make an impression on Ange Postecoglou’s intentions.
Before Thursday’s transfer deadline, Brighton and Tottenham are negotiating a loan move for winger Bryan Gil, who is now out of favor. This month, Gil is free to depart Spurs, and the Seagulls are attempting to get Gil on a first-time loan.
The Spaniard has only made two starts so far this season, and the addition of Timo Werner in January, who is on loan from RB Leipzig until the end of the season, has further restricted his options. After spending part of the previous season at Valencia, the 22-year-old returned to the Spanish club on loan for the second half of the 2021–2022 season, but he has struggled to make an impression in English football since his £21 million summer move from Sevilla.
Although Ange Postecoglou has allowed Gil and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to leave the team before the deadline of 11 p.m. on February 1, he has stated that he will need to find their replacements in the starting lineup going forward.
In response to a question on the two on Tuesday, Postecoglou stated: “I approach it the same way with all of the players.” They have [careers] of their own, even if I’m the one operating this ship. I talk about this all the time with gamers. Their careers depend on their doing what they believe is right.

“In my opinion, I require a formidable team. The games are now restricted to the period between now and the end of the year, so perhaps this year without being in Europe and certainly out of the cups.
“But I compare us to the other clubs that we want to attempt and push if we want to go where we want to. They have sizable squads. Some very talented players don’t start for them. Every week when they make a substitution, I check it. That is the destination we must reach.
“I’m going to replace them with someone who is going to be a good enough player to play in the Premier League but maybe won’t start, because you need that, whether that’s Bryan or Pierre who perhaps feel like they should be playing more.
“Pierre participated in the previous two games. He’s probably participated in every game this year, in my opinion. Obviously, he hasn’t started very much. Although I realize, Bryan probably hasn’t played as much as he would like to because of a few injury issues he had early in the season.
But in the end, I need to work on assembling a team that can compete. That will only occur if I have twenty, twenty-two, twenty-three players who are all of Premier League caliber.”And that implies that two other players who may not be playing as much will step in if Bryan and Pierre are unavailable.
“You just need a squad, but that doesn’t mean I don’t think they’re up to the standard or rate them.” With our injuries, we have witnessed it more than anyone else.”
