Everton fans react to Richarlison goals for Tottenham at Goodison Park
Richarlison found the back of the net twice in the first half on his return to Goodison Park, and beIN SPORTS journalist Andy Kerr shared that the Everton fans gave him a round of applause following the strikes.
It was said that the home crowd appreciated the fact Richarlison hadn’t celebrated either of his goals, instead opting to seemingly apologise to the fans in the 2-2 draw.
This has come after his goal against Everton earlier in the season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when he initially celebrated before remembering his opponent and quickly muting that jubilation.
Speaking live on beIN SPORTS [3 February], Kerry shared: “The Everton fans gave Richarlison a really nice ovation as well, a round of applause, I think they appreciated the fact that he hadn’t celebrated against his former club.”
Everton fans remember
The Everton fans still remember Richarlison’s time at the club, and while other fanbases in the Premier League opt to boo their former players for departing, those at Goodison Park always have a warm reception to those players that treated them well.
While applauding a goal against your club, particularly given the position Everton find themselves in this season, is a frankly bizarre thing to do, you can see the fans’ reasons for doing so.
However, surely there are other times and chances to give your respect? When the names are read out before the game, when he’s warming up in front of the crowd, perhaps even after the game, but applause for a player who has scored against you is questionable timing.
Andy Kerr live from the Goodison Park pitch for beIN Sports
Everton have found themselves in the relegation zone as a result of the ten-point deduction given by the Premier League, and this result, although a good one, won’t do much to help their cause, but a decision on their appeal is expected in mid-February.
