It would make perfect sense for both parties if the Kansas City Chiefs and an old buddy were to get back together.

Charles Omenihu, the Chiefs hybrid defender who can play inside and outside, underwent successful surgery on Tuesday to repair a ruptured ACL, which will likely keep him out of action for half of the 2024 season. Even though he stated on Twitter that he dislikes it when people try to predict his return date, we can still expect that he will miss some time, even if it’s just Week 1.

That means the Chiefs will need to grab another defender who can play inside and out, and luckily for them, there is a new free agent who will be available, and he happens to already know the Chiefs’ defensive play style under defensive coordinator Steven Spagnuolo.

According to the Miami Dolphins team Twitter account, the team is releasing Emmanuel Ogbah, who signed a four-year, $65 million deal after he posted back-to-back nine-sack seasons in 2020 and 2021 with the Dolphins.

His being cut is somewhat of a cap casualty for the Dolphins, but also, he wasn’t really producing as much as they would have liked. That doesn’t mean he can’t be good for a team for a cheap amount.

In the event that Omenihu remains sidelined for a while and the Chiefs lose Mike Danna to free agency, it might be prudent to sign a one-year contract. Furthermore, Ogbah won’t quite be in the Carlos Dunlap predicament because he will still be 30 years old when Week 1 begins.

Ogbah is definitely someone the Chiefs could use, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they made contact with him as soon as free agency begins.
