BREAKING:Giant The Favorite To Sign Matt Chapman
The preferred signing is Giant. Matt Chapman
With the arrival of spring training, the 2024 MLB season is rapidly approaching. There are still a lot of unsigned free agents available, though. One of them, whose market has been erratic, is former Toronto Blue Jays slugger Matt Chapman. Long thought to be a good fit for Chapman, the San Francisco Giants are the favorites, according to Jon Heyman in a Tony Clark episode of Foul Territory.
The two biggest names still available are Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery; the Giants have also been connected to both players throughout the process.
Giants vs. Matt Chapman gets heated
The rumors about Matt Chapman were certainly sparked by Justin Turner’s contract with the Toronto Blue Jays. There will come a point when things get serious, when Spring Training is under way and free agents have limited time to sign.
After playing his whole career with the Oakland Athletics, Chapman hit.240 with 17 home runs and 54 RBIs with the Blue Jays last season. In 2022, he moved to Toronto and added 27 home runs and 76 RBIs. With the Athletics in 2019, he had his greatest season with 36 home runs and 91 RBIs.
91 runs batted in.
Thus, Chapman might be planning to move back to the Bay Area, though it’s unclear when any of the unrestricted free agents will sign contracts. Still, the Giants are thought to be the front-runners to sign him.
