Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino dedicated the crushing 6-2 win at Everton that sent his side surging into the Premier League title race to his wife Karina on their wedding anniversary.

Pochettino, whose side are now six points adrift of Premier League leaders Liverpool heading into Christmas, said the scoreline matched his 26 years of marriage.The Spurs boss said: ‘Yes it was amazing. I want to send all my love to my wife and congratulations.

‘I believe in universal energy. Today was unbelievable because all day I was thinking I need to find a present for my wife.

‘This is the present! 2-6! Unbelievable. And then, on the last minute with Jesus Perez, we were talking because it’s 26 years today that we got married. I was in my wedding, 26 years ago and now, yes, the score is 2-6. It’s a coincidence but sometimes it’s not too much a coincidence.’

When asked if he had got her something else, Pochettino replied: ‘I am going to arrive so late. My love is enough.’

Pundit Graeme Souness claimed on Sky Sports that Spurs can now push Liverpool and Manchester City all the way after the victory.

‘Tottenham are definitely title contenders, providing they keep Harry Kane fit,’ Souness said.

Kane struck twice, taking his tally to 15 goals already this season, but the win was marred by a wild lunge by Everton keeper Jordan Pickford on England team-mate Dele Alli.

Alli was forced off injured at half-time and Alan Shearer said: ‘Disgusting challenge. It should have been a red card. Pickford is lucky Dele didn’t react.’
