The Chicago Bears, who traded for Justin Fields on Saturday, will select a quarterback with the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Compared to Smith, Jones is a superior run blocker.
Smith gave up two sacks and received an overall grade of 55.4 for his 2023 campaign. His run-blocking grade of 45.1 doesn’t seem to be helpful for Shane Waldron’s offense. Jones and Smith were fined nine times last season for having yellow laundry
.Ryan Tannehill seems like a great addition to the quarterback room, according to Barnwell as well. Tannehill, who is 35, would have a wealth of knowledge to impart to Williams or another rookie on surviving in the NFL:
The two players on Chicago’s depth chart are Brett Rypien and Tyson Bagent. Although Tannehill won’t challenge Caleb Williams, the projected first overall pick, for the starting job, having some senior experience in the quarterback room wouldn’t hurt.
The Bears ought to think about signing Tannehill if he could be signed for a reasonable price. For training camp, the Bears must have a seasoned quarterback on their roster.
